Purple Dragon Academy

Effective date: August 24, 2026

Last updated: August 24, 2026

A plain-language promise

Purple Dragon Academy exists to help families educate their children at home. We collect only what we need to run the school, process payments, keep parent and student dashboards working, and help you meet the homeschool requirements of your state.

We do not sell personal information. We do not rent it. We do not trade it. We do not share it with data brokers. We do not use student or family information for third-party advertising.

If a vendor must touch data so the service can function (Wix, a payment processor, Google Classroom, Zoom or Google Meet), they get only what that job requires, under contract, and they are not allowed to use it for their own marketing.

1. Who we are

Purple Dragon Academy (“PDA,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a private, remote homeschool-support program operated by Jon Klement.

We are not a public school, not a charter school, and not an institution that receives funds from the U.S. Department of Education. Parents remain the homeschool. We provide instruction, planning support, records tools, live sessions, and AI-assisted learning so families can fulfill their state obligations.

Operator contact (COPPA requires this in the policy itself):

  • Operator: Purple Dragon Academy / Jon Klement

  • Mailing address: 1101 East Broadway Blvd, Sedalia, MO 65301

  • Telephone: 1-314-457-3666

  • Email for privacy and parent requests: jon@purpledragonacademy.com

  • Website: https://www.purpledragonacademy.com/

Parents with questions about a child’s information should use the email above. That inbox is the one that handles all parent inquiries.

2. Who this policy covers

This policy applies to:

  • Visitors to our website

  • Parents and legal guardians who inquire, book a consultation, enroll, or pay

  • Students whose information a parent provides, or who use a student dashboard, class, or AI feature after the parent has enrolled them

  • Users of parent and student dashboards, announcements, bookings, and related services hosted on our Wix site and connected tools

By “personal information” we mean information that identifies, relates to, or could reasonably be linked to a parent, student, or household.

By “child” we mean a student under 13, which is the age COPPA protects. We treat older minors with the same care, and parents remain the account holders.

3. We are homeschool support — not a FERPA school

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) generally applies to educational agencies and institutions that receive funds from the U.S. Department of Education. Purple Dragon Academy does not receive those funds and is not a FERPA-covered school.

That does not mean student information is casual. We handle enrollment, academic, attendance, and communications data as confidential education-support records. We use them to serve your family and to help you keep the records your state expects a homeschooling parent to keep.

You, the parent, are the school of record. If your state requires a notice of intent, attendance log, portfolio, or hours record, we may help you produce those materials. We do not become the public-school custodian of the child.

4. Information we collect

We collect only what is reasonably necessary for the activity at hand. We do not condition a child’s participation on extra personal information beyond what that class or tool needs.

4.1 Information parents provide

  • Name, email, phone, mailing or billing address

  • Relationship to the student and proof we are dealing with a parent or legal guardian

  • Student name, date of birth or age band, grade band, and state of residence

  • Enrollment choices, course selections, schedule preferences

  • Homeschool context that lets us tailor support: state of residence, notice-of-intent status, required subjects or hours, evaluation or portfolio style if you ask us to track it

  • Information you type into consultation forms, emails, chat, or booking tools

  • Payment method tokens and billing details (see Section 7; we do not store full card numbers)

  • Sibling or pod information if you request a multi-student discount

  • Communications preferences

4.2 Information that appears in dashboards and school operations

Depending on what you enroll in, this may include:

  • Login credentials and account role (parent vs. student)

  • Class roster, section, teacher or AI-teacher assignment

  • Attendance and session participation

  • Assignments, submissions, scores, feedback, and progress markers

  • School-wide and personal announcements you send or receive

  • Booking and calendar data for live classes or meetings

  • Notes you or we add so instruction stays consistent

  • Records generated so you can meet state homeschool documentation needs

4.3 Information collected automatically on the website

Like most sites built on Wix, our site may collect:

  • IP address, browser type, device type, operating system

  • Pages viewed, timestamps, referring URL, approximate location derived from IP

  • Cookies and similar technologies needed to keep you logged in, protect the session, remember language, and keep checkout from breaking

We use these for security, site function, and basic understanding of whether the site is working. We do not use them to build advertising profiles of children.

4.4 Information from live sessions

Live classes and meetings may use Zoom, Google Meet, or a similar tool you choose with us. Those tools process participant names, email, video and audio while the session runs, and technical logs.

We do not record sessions as a default practice. If a particular class will be recorded (for a student who missed class, for example), we will say so in advance and give the parent a way to decline the recording for their child.

4.5 Information from Google Classroom or similar classroom tools

If we use Google Classroom (or a comparable classroom platform) as part of a course, student work, comments, and grades may live in that platform under the account structure we set up with you. Google’s terms and privacy policy apply to that platform in addition to this policy. We use Classroom data only to teach and to report progress to the parent.

4.6 AI features and future Pixel Dragons

PDA uses AI teachers and tools (including characters such as Keith) to explain material, quiz, coach writing, and help students think with the tool rather than hand the work to it.

Those features may process:

  • Prompts and answers a student or parent types

  • Work samples the student submits for feedback

  • Course context (subject, assignment, grade band)

  • Usage metadata needed to keep the session stable

Planned “Pixel Dragons” and similar companions. When those features launch, they may also store a learning-companion profile (preferred pace, strengths, goals you approve, conversation history inside the school). We will not turn that on for a child without a parent’s additional consent. Companion data will be used only to personalize that student’s PDA experience.

What we do not do with AI inputs:

  • We do not sell prompts, essays, or chat logs

  • We do not use a child’s personal information to train public or general-purpose models for unrelated commercial products

  • We do not use student AI data for third-party advertising

  • We do not require a child to create a public social profile

If a specific AI vendor must process a prompt so the feature can run, that vendor is a service provider: contractually limited to our instructions, prohibited from using the content for their own advertising, and required to protect it.

5. How we use information

We use personal information to:

  1. Respond to inquiries and run consultations

  2. Enroll students and create parent and student accounts

  3. Process payments, invoices, discounts (including sibling/pod and full-load discounts), refunds, and failed-payment follow-up

  4. Deliver classes, dashboards, announcements, and homeschool-support materials

  5. Tailor pacing, course load, and record-keeping to the state of residence you give us, so you can meet your homeschool rules

  6. Communicate about schedule changes, progress, and school operations

  7. Provide AI-assisted instruction and, with separate parent consent, Pixel Dragon companions

  8. Maintain security, prevent fraud and abuse, and debug the site

  9. Keep the limited records tax, bookkeeping, and dispute rules require

  10. Honor parent requests to review, correct, or delete information

We do not use children’s personal information for behavioral advertising.

6. How we share information (and how we do not)

We do not sell data

We do not sell personal information as that word is used in ordinary English or in state privacy laws that define “sale” or “share” to include trading data for advertising. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We share only as needed to operate the school

As the law requires

Service providers are authorized to use the information only to perform their work for us. They are not authorized to sell it or to use it to market their own products to your child.

We may disclose information if we reasonably believe it is necessary to comply with law, a valid legal process, or to protect the safety of a student, parent, or another person.

If the school is ever transferred as a going concern, enrollment records would move with it under the same promises in this policy, and we would notify parents.

Parents may consent to internal use while refusing non-essential third-party disclosure. Disclosure that is integral to the service (Wix hosting, the payment processor that runs your card, the classroom tool for the course you bought) is required for that service to exist. Optional features that would send a child’s information to an extra party — including future Pixel Dragons if they use an additional vendor — will be offered only with a clear parent yes.

7. Payments

Tuition and fees may be paid by credit or debit card, PayPal, Klarna, Afterpay, or another method we enable at checkout. Amounts follow the published structure (for example, per-class pricing, monthly pay-in-thirds, full-load discounts, and sibling or pod discounts).

  • Card numbers go to the payment processor, not into a PDA spreadsheet

  • We receive confirmation, last-four digits, expiration month/year, billing name, and whether the charge succeeded

  • A parent-completed payment is also one of the methods U.S. law recognizes as verifiable parental consent for COPPA, because the account holder is notified of the transaction

Payment records are kept for bookkeeping and tax purposes as described in Section 10.

8. Children under 13 (COPPA)

Purple Dragon Academy is used by families with children of many ages, including children under 13. We therefore treat the site as subject to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act and the FTC’s COPPA Rule, including the 2025 amendments now in effect.

Parental consent

We collect personal information from a child under 13 only after a parent or legal guardian has enrolled the child and given verifiable consent. Methods we may use include:

  • A parent completing enrollment and paying from a credit card, debit card, or payment account that notifies the account holder of the transaction

  • A signed enrollment or consent form from the parent

  • Another method reasonably calculated to confirm we are dealing with the parent

Teachers, relatives, or the child cannot consent in the parent’s place.

What parents can do at any time

A parent may:

  • Review the personal information we have collected from or about their child

  • Correct inaccurate information

  • Refuse further collection or use

  • Direct us to delete the child’s personal information, subject to the narrow retention needs in Section 10 (for example, a tax invoice we are legally required to keep)

  • Withdraw consent for optional features such as a future Pixel Dragon companion while leaving core enrolled classes in place, when those can be separated

To make a request, email jon@purpledragonacademy.com from the parent address on the account and put “Parent data request — [child’s first name]” in the subject line. We will take reasonable steps to verify that you are the parent before we release or delete information. If you withdraw consent for data that the service cannot function without, we may have to close that child’s access to the affected feature or course.

Public posting

Students cannot publish a public profile or make their personal information publicly visible through PDA. Class work stays inside the family/school tools.

No extra data as a ticket in

We will not require a child to provide more personal information than the class or tool reasonably needs.

9. Cookies and similar technologies

Our Wix site uses cookies that are necessary for login, security, load balancing, and checkout. Wix and embedded tools may also set their own cookies.

We do not run third-party advertising networks against student dashboards. If the public marketing site ever uses an analytics or ads cookie beyond what Wix includes by default, we will update this section and, where required, obtain appropriate consent. Parents can control cookies in the browser; blocking all cookies may break login and payment.

10. How long we keep information

COPPA requires us to say, in this policy, why we keep children’s information and when we delete it. We apply the same schedule to older students unless a shorter period is enough.

When the period ends, we delete or irreversibly de-identify the information using reasonable measures. Backup copies fall out of rotation on the vendor’s backup cycle.

If you ask us to delete a child’s information earlier, we will do so except for the slice we must keep (a paid invoice, a record of the deletion request itself, or data we are legally forbidden to destroy yet). We will tell you what we cannot remove and why.

11. Security

We use the security provided by Wix and our other vendors (encryption in transit, access-controlled dashboards, password-protected accounts) and we limit staff access to student information to people who need it to teach or administer the school.

No online service is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a breach that requires notice under applicable law, we will notify affected parents as the law requires.

Please keep parent-account passwords to yourselves. Student logins should not be shared outside the household.

12. Parent and student dashboards

Parent dashboards may show enrollment, billing status, announcements, schedules, and the child’s progress. Student dashboards show the work and tools appropriate to that student.

  • A parent account is the controlling account

  • A student should use only the student login we issue

  • We do not give other families access to your child’s records

  • School-wide announcements are operational, not a public social feed

If a dashboard screen looks wrong, email us. That is often the fastest correction path.

13. State privacy rights (California and other states)

Depending on where you live, state law may give you the right to know, access, correct, delete, or obtain a portable copy of personal information, and to opt out of “sale” or “sharing” for advertising.

We do not sell or share personal information for advertising, so there is no advertising opt-out to flip. You may still make an access, correction, or deletion request at jon@purpledragonacademy.com.

We will not deny service, charge a different price, or reduce quality because you exercised a privacy right, except where the data you asked us to delete is required to provide the service itself.

Authorized-agent requests must include proof the agent can act for you. We will verify the parent or account holder before completing the request.

14. Other families and international use

PDA is operated from Missouri, United States. If you access the site from another country, you understand information is processed in the United States on Wix and our other U.S.-region vendors.

We do not knowingly build profiles on children outside the enrollment relationship a parent creates with us.

15. Third-party sites

Our site may link to Zoom, Google, PayPal, curriculum publishers, or other tools. Their privacy policies govern those sites. This policy governs PDA.

16. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a material way — especially anything about children, AI companions, or new vendors who receive student information — we will post the new version here with a new “Last updated” date and notify enrolled parents by email or dashboard announcement. Continued use after the effective date means the new policy applies. If a change requires a fresh parent consent under COPPA, we will ask for that consent before the new practice starts.
